DAOs allow any member to share a proposal. This proposal is then voted on by a Quorum (The minimum number of votes that a distributed transaction has to obtain if the committee has 13 members this means that seven members must vote yes in the Quorum).
Recently Brain from Uranius shared his interview (here) on his proposal to the UPDAO for Pixel Vault on his creative idea in regards to storytelling and world-building. This article acts as a companion piece to his interview and upcoming spaces.
This article focuses on the Pixel Vault UPDAO NFT brand.
The Story incubator model
Genesis X UPDAO aims to create original 3D comics based on community contributions to the storyline and licencing of Metahero characters that are voted on by the community. This incubator model has been attempted in the past by other NFT projects that have seen to sustain community involvement around lore. As a writer myself (who has written novels and screenplays) I do struggle to grasp how this model would work long-term for projects.
Partially due to the fact that a great story has a singular vision by one writer, when multiple people get involved it can become a dog’s breakfast (a term used to describe too many cooks in the kitchen).
However, what is interesting about this model is the community-led derivative that is essentially run by the community for the community. A side story to the work done by Pixel Vault. The issue I see arising here is the fact that many people are not writers, you do not just wake up one day and write or put input into a creative story.
Many of the most famous writers in history have undergone years and years of writing and failing. At times I feel many people that are not part of the creative process or in the industry fail to comprehend how hard it is to write a popular piece of fiction that gains mainstream success (or even a guaranteed following).
Alas, this new way of creating stories is nevertheless interesting and provides a thought-provoking experiment. If we go back to history, readers were responsible for voting on DC comics Robins Death in “Death in the family”. This was a very controversial story at the time and was inspired by a readers vote. So an innovative system where holders of a project are able to vote on character deaths, story arcs and branching pathways may provide a unique protocol that has a number of use cases in upcoming media and virtual communities.
